Established in 1991, CDT supplies digital discs to a wide range of customers ranging from large corporates, advertising and promotional agencies, and the music industry (including individual musicians) to government healthcare institutions and universities.

CDT has a reputation backed up by its strict adherence to international quality regulations and security accreditation. It is the only company in South Africa with copyright and licensing verification accreditation from the Content Delivery and Storage Association (CDSA), the international content protection association that guarantees comprehensive security for intellectual property. In addition, CDT is part of the Times Media Group, which gives its customers access to an impressive distribution resource.

Business Situation

CDT experienced a constant need for customers to be informed of accurate information on their orders, creating the need for an ERM solution. The previous system implementation of Navision was inadequate in that the deliverables of the system were not met by the previous supplier and that there was not enough up-time of their infrastructure. CDT needed a solution that delivered on the proposed and signed-off requirements. The company also couldn’t retain its IT staff and experienced challenges in keeping their skills up to date.

Solution

CDT used its networks to look for potential service providers to provide a solution bespoke to them. They decided on Strategix because of the hands-on approach of the management team and Strategix’s willingness to adapt to CDT’s ever-changing environment. With the customisation outside of the Microsoft/NAV programming, many brainstorming sessions were held, where solutions were offered and implemented. The company opted for virtualising on-premise with VMware, which provided a continuously available solution. The most attractive aspect of Strategix’s service offering was that the implementation was successful and that support is available 24/7 – the solution to the inability to retain staff and keep their skills up to date was to outsource to Strategix, as the latter’s Microsoft and virtualisation skills set met all the CDT’s requirements to deliver its business to its customer base.
